Dance show "shoes"

On our trip to London we went and saw a fantastic dance show at the peacoc theathre. If you happen to be going to London this is a must see! It's one of the best dance shows I've ever seen, and I belive it to be just as entertaining for non dancers as for profesionals. Here is a link to the theathres home page: Sadler's Wells Theatre

Here is what they write about the show:

"A celebration of one of the greatest passions of the modern age, Shoes is a song and dance spectacular that takes audiences on a journey from the lows of the croc via the agony and ecstasy of the stiletto, to the highs of the platform boot. Fresh from the pen of Richard Thomas (co-creator of Jerry Springer - The Opera) and the feet of top showbiz choreographer Stephen Mear (Sweet Charity, Mary Poppins), Shoes is a wickedly irreverent and affectionate look at the special power this seemingly innocuous item of clothing holds over many a shoe-addict.

Alongside Mear, Shoes displays the diverse choreographic talents of an A-list team of dance-makers; Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (zero degrees, Sutra), Aletta Collins (The Red Balloon, The Tempest), Kate Prince (Into the Hoods) and Mark Smith (Deaf Men Dancing), who under Mear’s direction, have taken inspiration from Thomas’ hilarious lyrics to create dance numbers that reflect their own unique styles of performance."

little ballerinas- day 86

My days are filled with lots of classes, choreography, theatre and preparing. One of the highlight of the week is to see these beautiful children in pink tutus run around in class. They move so freely to the music and in many ways I feel like I can learn something from them! I love how their bodies speak a language of their own, and how they are not restricted by fear or what they think they should do or look like. It's very liberating!

I'm sitting at a coffee shop waiting for day 2 of the winterbrake rehersals to begin. We start off with warm ups at 10.15, then a dance rehersal to go over all of the choreography. At 12 there is a costume meeting, and after that we are staging the rest of the 5'th act. It's gonna be another long and fun day of getting the pieces together.

The work we are doing now, is for sure the fun part of making a show. This is where everyone and everything comes together and becomes a real play.

Are you on a winter brake right now?

twilight

Yeah...another day of home office. I decided to take this week "off". Meaning that I'm not going to ballett classes in the morning this week.(I should actually "blame" this one on Maria, since the real reason I'm not going is that she's not going this week) I really wanted to get some choreographing done this week though, and the morning is when I get the most work done. I'm doing some cool dances this semester. I love this song that I've been working on today:  Decode It's one of those songs that's just so easy to make movements to. Since everything in the music and lyrics give inspiration for it. I don't know if that makes sence or not. Decode is going to be a twilight inspired choreography with vampires and warewolves or one of the kind. The theme for the summer show is going to be Fairytales, so I get to do some fun stuff and let my imagination run wild. Fun stuff.

Day 21 worlds aids day- dance show

I just got back from dancing with my girls in domkirken. The dancers were Hilde Olsson (pro dancer) Abelone, Mariann, Henriette, Nina, Sara, Zahra, Astrid, Daria and Maria from Hauketo dansestudio, Bettina, Nora, Live, Alix og Christina from Vinderen dansestudio. The event was really great. I'm so glad we were asked to do the dance show there, cuz I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. Everything was so professional, great lights and a fantastic band. Great performers, artists and singers and a strong message of solidarity and respect. It was a great honor to be able to come with my 15 dancers and be a part of it.

I went to see Pia at Aktifys again today too. We didn't get to stretch and do everything we were supposed to today. I fell in class last week and hurt my back, so there were some problems that had to be fixed first. At least now my back isn't hurting anymore and I can go back to training!

Time to relax for me. That means facebook and tv...what are you doing tonight?

Day 19 Audition

Feeling good

Today was the audition for the dance company I'm starting up! Fantastic performances from all the girls who showed up today!

I was on the train all day and went straight to work teaching 4 classses and then host the audition. Somehow it feels like I've been going for 24 hrs or something. I havent done my exercises today. Mostly cuz my back is not in place from hurting myself last week. I need to get it fixed by Pia (my trainer/manuel therapist) Before I hurt it even more. I have an appointment on wednesday so I'll be good!

See you all tomorrow <3

time to think

Sitting on the train letting the world pass me by outside, always makes my mind travel. I visit places and people I don't se much in my life. I visit memories of the past and the dreams of the future. It's one of the places that I find space to think. Of much and nothing at all. The scenerey is so calm right now. It calms me. It brings music to mind. Lyrics and dance moves.

What song comes to mind?

Day 9 - date

So glad that I finally got to see my trainer today at Aktifys. She could tell i had been working, and the restistance in my hip was decreased since I last saw her. She gave me a fantastic stretch, and I'm ready to keep working! It's funny how little the pain of stretching bothers me now. I have memories of going to Links when I was in dance school and how I cried when Jan was stretching my hamstrings. Now it's not so painfull to me. I've gotten used to it I guess.

Well, what a wonderful way to step into the weekend, and a fun one. Since we're celebrating both mine and Isaks (2yrs) birthday.

Day 8 - no milk today

We were running low, so I had to make a stop on my way home to get some more. I really woun't risk having no milk today or tomorrow. Here's what can happen if you run out:

No milk 1

and this:
No milk 2

I just love these commercials. I must have seen them a hundred times, but I still laugh. After doing a little research (read googeling) It seems a lot of people recomend drinking milk after working out. One article on the subject is here and another one here. I thought that was pretty interessting, I don't really drink much milk anymore, but I'm about to start. In fact I'm gonna have some right now!

No Milk Today by Hermits Herman's

No milk today, my love has gone away
The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn
No milk today, it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams
How could they know the palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen

No milk today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, we'd turn night into day

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two up two down

No milk today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, we'd turn night into day
As music played the faster did we dance
We felt it both at once, the start of our romance

Day 7 -how does it feel?

Dance is emotion. This picture is full of it. Can you see it? Passion, love, grief, sorrow, longing. This is what I ultimately long for in dance. To portrait emotion. Without it dance is boring, even with legs like skyskrapers.

That's a little perspectiv today when I'm feeling a bit sick and tired. I barely made it through my 4 classes at the studio and now my voice is comepletely gone.....my leg is as low as usual but my 4 year old has hers up to the ears! I seriously need to take a picture of her legs! That's inspiration right there!

Looking forwards to my stretch appointment on friday!

Day 6- dancing in Oslo domkirke

I just got off the phone with people from the organization Aksept and have now been hired to do a dance show at the world aids day and the show in Oslo  domkirke! It's on desember 1'st and there is really little time to rehers since it's in beetween our christmas-shows. So the plan is to hire a couple of proffesionals, and make a simple choreography that can be done on different timings. I need as many youth as possible, so I'm bringing all my Hauketo-girls and some from Vinderen. Also people coming to mu audition two days before will have the oportunity to join! (They wanted as many as possible!)  The song we're dancing to is an instrumental version of  I'm feeling good. There are several other oportunities to do jobs for these people later on, so I'm excited to make this connection and to do this job!

And I have done my workouts and stretches at home today...in the kitchen, with mpeole staring at me from outside! :D I got a new apponitment with my trainer on friday so I need to do the work!!!

Day 5- dance will never die

First some inspiration!

I'm a bit bummed today, cuz I had an appointment with my trainer for new exercises and to be stretched today. My daughter is home sick with the chickenpox and they would not let me take her with me there....wich means I could not go.

This is gonna be a hard week to keep up the work since there are no ballett classes and I'm "stuck" at home, but I will do my best to do my stretches and stuff at home!

I think the picture I posted is awesome! When I get my legs up there I want to keep working them so that I can do a pose like that when I get old!!! LOVE IT!!

Day 4

I've made a video to show the exercises I've been given to start off with. They are very simple and I've done them many times before. But I've never done them the right way. It's not easy to see the details in this video, so I'll try to make one that shows the difference later.

Here are my starting off exercises:

Enjoy!
