Day 15 -to me

Happy bithday-

Today I got breakfast in bed and a new phone!!! Well, I don't have it yet, cuz it's the brand new htc hd, and it's preordered. It's supposed to come to the store on the 27'th, so hopefully I'll have it sometime next week! I'm so happy! This also means better picture/video possibilities and blogging from the htc!

I went to get stretched again yday morning, and like the last time I was there there's much progress! I have my knee at my shoulder almost, so I'm getting there!

I'll try to take some new pictures later at the studio!

Here are some from mondays open day classes:

i don't feel like dancing

At least not without music....

The class I went to on monday was completely without music. It made me not want to dance. I just wanted to go home and sleep. Not inspired. So you guessed it, my inspiration in dance often (or all the time) comes from and through the music.

So the rest of the week I'm going to ballett class instead. Kinda sad, cuz I really liked the teacher and exercises....but I died with no music for 1 1/2 hrs.

Music I like to dance to can be anything and everything. It's not always a given what triggers that string in me. Classical music sometimes. Rock. Pop. Jazz. Sometimes it's the lyrics in the song that gives me an idea. Sometimes it's the melody, or one instrument. Sometimes it's just the moode in the song.

What music inspires you?

coda dance festival

This week is the coda dance festival, and to my great joy there are more classes than usual this week at Proda.Today I'm checking out a contemporary class at 10 that I'm  planning to follow throughout the week if it's good.
The teacher today is called Thomas Caley:

Thomas Caley (Stockholm)

Koreograf, danser, pedagog

I 1997 etablerte Thomas Caley kompaniet Scentrifug sammen med Petter Jacobsson i New York. De mottok prisen Gold Mask for beste koreografi for deres arbeid med Chess The Musical. I 2000/01 skapte Scentrifug det kritiker-roste verket In nooks and crannies, en omfattende scenekunst-installasjon for Operaen i Stockholm, som inkluderte Kungliga Baletten og Operaens orkester. Scentrifug har nå base i Stockholm.

Anyone else going?

On to another subject. I have started looking into finding housing in NYC next summer. It still feels to far ahead, and to uncertain to start getting to excited, but the dream is very much alive!

nuns in disguise

Yeah, it's me and my weird ideas again. My favourite piece so far this season it by far this one. Colourful birds covered up as nuns, dancing to an old norwegian hymn rocked up by "Gåte".

Here are some photos from the first rehersal with robes.

dance is a feeling

dans er en følelse

Dancing with my jazz 3 girls at vinderen today I totally got it. The feeling. The feeling that makes me LOVE my job. Inspired.

We started working on this one: litle fuglen The concept is that we are dressed in black robes (like priests/nuns) but underneatht the robe there is a colourful bird waiting to be set free. We dance with the robes, and then dance them off. The song is an old norwegian hymn, so it's pretty apropriate with the priest theme.

I had so much fun executing this idea, and see it start to become more than just my thoughts. It''s gonna be a nice one I think!

Living legends

Siv og barna...det kom en haug med små 3-4 åringer inn på slutten av timen...

There are so many people who inspire me. In life, in dance, in freedom and art. Most of them are not the great lengends of time....long gone, but people I met in my life. The other day in class (when I sprained my toe -yes) I was looking around the room....and was almost overwhelemed with the inspiration from the dancers surrounding me! Siv being, to me, the most perfect dancer...perfectly placed, and perfectly free in range and way of movement. And with expressions and light in her eyes thats pretty uniqe. What I love about her classes is that the emphasis is on expression. Sure, with the perfect tecnique one will execute the movements more corrcly, but on the other hand freedom in movement and tecnique can sometimes contradict each other. What I mean is that in the end, what matters, is weather you are able to reach the audience with something more that impressive tecnique. This emphasis in class makes me think less of what I look like, and more of what the feeling expressed should be. I'm trying to take emotions from my life and put them into great use in my dancing.

There are a couple of other dancers that I would also like to mention. Rathi for one. She inspires me every time! She always does something special with the given chorography and adds her own flavour! It's so inspiring. and makes me think differently about my own movements.

to tell you how sorry i am...
I also noticed Søren. I loved the way his body executed the small details in the choreography!

Last but not least Jon Ole who adds more emotion to the dance than anyone else I know. I saw him in Siv's performance "choices" in 2009, and he was the one danceer who actually brought me to tears! He danced a whole story and it really made it through to me. He is my best example of how perfect tecnique can in fact emphesize great emotions.

brought you to tears....

So the strive will be to work and work and work to get stronger tecnique, but not give up even though it isn't perfect. Rather to give more emotions where there is a lack of it, and bring something of my own. Finally to keep being inspired and maybe, if I'm lucky, inspire someone......

one fine day

I totally busted my toe.
I was really enjoying siv's class...finally getting a grip on the choreography and feeling really inspired by the amazing dancers around me! In the finall moments of the class I had my weight to far over and twisted the toe in a turn....

I kept thinking it would get better, and it never did. Not even after teaching four classes in the evening??? Unbeliveable!! So this morning, when it still was hurting to even put weight on the foot, I took a trip down to the emergency room. Good thing nothing was broken, but I have to take it easy for a week....no dancing....

I took some pictures at the class, but the camera is somewhere else...and I'm not leaving the couch right now....so yeah, later.

the ballerina

the ballerina

I should have done some research on this subject, but i didn't. So if you can help me out here I would be very grateful.

This beautiful old lady in ponte shoes who always show up for proffesional ballet class is simply so fasinating to me. I wish I knew her age, but I couldn't bring myself to ask her. She must have been a ballerina in the opera or something. I wonder what parts she used to play. I can see it in her steps that she picks up the choreography so easily. She must have done them  a million times before. I though todays class was a bit much, and she seemed to thouroghly enjoy it.

I did, however, manage to drag myself home and not stay for another class. I really need to go over all my classes for tonight!

Oh, the mirror in the studio is coming up tomorrow!!!

Ballett

After some consideration I decided to go to the earliest class today. It's ballett at 9. I'm having my coffe right now, and need to leave in about 5 min. I'm picking up the kids before teaching at five, and I need to go over some stuff and change some music. The plan is to go home and work after ballett....unless I get sucked into Siv's class that is :P

Have a good one <3

No name...

So I had a great start off today. Class was amazing,  Siv is amazing! We did a choreography that seemed vaguely familiar, though I couldn't really remember it. Song called "No name" and we tried to dance the feeling of being anonymous in a wonderful way...with all the freedom it gives....and the loneliness it will bring on the other end of the scale.

After class I went around with a bunch of flyers. (Adds for the studio) And 3 schools took flyers to give to everyone in their school! Awesome!

And 3 people have called to sign up their kids today. Seems like the classes are filling up....

Now it's music-mixing and choreographing on the agenda.....later <3
